Lastly, SBRR Holiday Break….last practice of the year will be Saturday Dec 13th then we will break from Dec 14th through the end of the month….First official practice of 2026 will be Saturday January 3rd. Keep up to date as we will be posting an ideal suggested “reset and recovery” before we begin a productive, healthy and exciting year of running, racing and training and race calendar in 2026!

Coach Mike is away racing a half Ironman Triathlon tomorrow and Coach Rusty is in Portland, Or with the XC teams. So we will be coaching from afar…..

Workout tomorrow:

Meet Goleta Beach parking lot 6:30am, warm up, 30min, strides x 6, begin in the parking lot across from restrooms and do the 3miles on the bike path at low end threshold effort (80-85%) to just past the Turnpike/bike path intersection, take 5min jog, 2miles back toward Goleta beach 10sec/mi faster than your 3mile pace, cooldown 20min or your remaining miles on schedule.

The workout for Tuesday PM SBRR runners:

Easy 30min warmups, strides x 5, 12 continuous laps done as follows:

300meters at 90% (high end threshold effort easily recovered in 100meter jog), 100meter jog super easy x 12 laps; 4min jog after the 12 laps, 800@5K race effort

Cool down 20-30min

CONGRATULATIONS To all SBRR Runners who raced the New York City Marathon and the Two Cities Marathon last weekend! Rich Dixon also ran and completed his first 100 Miler at the Rio Del Lago 100 miler…Congrats Rich! It was a great weekend for us as everyone raced great and ran well!

Warmup with everyone to Laguna tennis courts, do 6xstrides on grass….

2 large grass loops at threshold effort, 2:30 jog to dirt track, 4×400@5k race effort with 90sec between each, 4 min jog, 2laps around grass field @5k race effort, 4 min jog, 2×400@5k race effort dirt track with 90sec between.

Cooldown remainder….13-15 miles total

Workout for everyone else, Mike will go over tomorrow.

Good luck to all racing the NYC Marathon and the Two cities Marathon this week!

Good Luck Shayne, Nakisa, Marcela, Kelsey, Karlyn, Chelsea, Michaela, Ida and Evan (2 Cities)!!

All racing this week: warmup 2 miles, strides x 5, 2-3×1600@ 20-30sec faster than marathon race pace with 60sec between, 2mile cooldown..then carb load today!

For those racing in the next 2-7 weeks in the first lane aside from those who already know what they are doing:

warm up, 2-4miles, strides x 5, 6x1K@threshold effort with 45-60sec between each, 3min jog, 1x1k@ 10sec faster per lap than the previous 1k’s at threshold effort, cooldown 2-3miles

Everyone else in lanes 4-8:

warmup, 2-3miles, strides x 6, 4x1lap@threshold effort with 60sec between, 2min jog, 3 laps at 90-92% effort (should be faster than the 1 lappers at Threshold effort..basically 5k race effort, 3min jog, 4x1lap@threshold effort with 60sec between each; 2min jog, 2laps@5K race effort (same pace/effort as the 3 lapper), cooldown 2-3miles

Those who workout Tuesday AM please check the website this Monday for specific workouts as Rusty is out of town next week and back November 2nd.

We will be meeting at shoreline Cafe 6:30am

Current Race calendar:

  • NYC Marathon 11/2. (1 week!)
  • Two Cities 11/2 (1 week)!)
  • SB Half Marathon 11/9 (2weeks)
  • CIM 12/7 (6weeks)
  • USATF Masters XC National Champs 12/7/25 (6 weeks)
  • USATF XC Club National Champs 1/11/26 (11 weeks)

All women racing XC Nationals in 6 weeks:

Warmup 30 minutes with everyone else finishing just beyond the parking lot by the Nite Moves start (where we did the workout a couple weeks ago)…do your strides x 6 on the grass then as we did a couple weeks ago and as we’ve done before do 3x.9mi loop at threshold effort with 60sec between each, then change into your spikes if you have them and take 4 minutes before you do 8 200 m grass repeats sane as 2 weeks ago…run 95% to the second bench (should be 40-50seconds), after your 8th one, 2×400 on the grass hard up easy down….then change shoes and 1x.9mi at threshold effort same as first 3. Cool down remaining.

All folks racing the SB Half Marathon:

Warmup 30 minutes, strides x 6, 4 mile TIME TRIAL (race;) start at the harbor and head to Elise Way (Lazy Acres) turn around and head back to the harbor., cool down remaining miles

All Marathoners should know your workouts.

Everyone else: warm up 30 minutes with those racing the SB Half, strides x 6, 4 miles at threshold effort (85% perceived effort or roughly half Marathon race pace), cool down remaining miles

Hi! Announcement from SMHS:

PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE STAFF PARKING SPOTS EVER! (These are the spots by the fence closest to the gym)

Those racing in the next 3-8 weeks are in the first lane:

1600@5K race effort, 4min jog, 3 sets of 3×400 with 60s recovery between 400s and 4min jog between sets..set#1@ 5 sec faster than your 1600 pace, set#2@5sec slower than set#1, set#3 same as set#1

cooldown remaining miles

Everyone else in lanes 4-8:

warmup, 2-4miles, strides x 5,

5min@threshold effort (perceived effort 80-85%), 1min easy, 1min @95% effort, 2min jog x 3 sets (27minutes total)

cooldown 2-3miles
